This article will walk you through the basics of playing Genesis League Goals. It will not feature specific strategies to use with specific cards or coaches, though we will populate more articles like that in the future, so be sure to check back then.
There are a few things you will need to do before moving into actual gameplay:
- You will need to create at least one team. Please review our guide on creating a team here. If you already have a team created, please move to the next step.
- After creating team, you will need to start a match. Follow our guide on beginning gameplay with a Team to do this.
- Make sure to have a basic understanding of the game layout.
- Once the game has started, a player on the field will have the ball. It can be one of your players, or one of your opponent's players.
A few other terms to be aware of:
Offensive Side - The team that has the ball is on offense. Only a player with the ball will be able to engage in actions to move it downfield. Actions must be selected within 5 seconds, otherwise they will be selected at random, so make sure you stay on your toes!
Defensive Side - The team that doesn't have the ball and is fighting to get control of it is on defense. Defense plays passively and will automatically use their best stats/abilities to steal the ball from the offense, based on the actions taken by the offense.
Gameplay
When a match begins, you'll notice your own username, as well as your opponent's, on the top bar (called the scoreboard, seen above); below that will be your morale bar, with the timer/turn counter in the middle of the board. The scores for each team will show up on their respective side of the scoreboard as the game progresses and goals are made.
Each match will be 40 turns in length (a turn being used up anytime one team takes an action of dribbling, passing, or shooting), with each turn representing 2.25 minutes of game time; this results in a full match (40 turns) taking the full 90 minutes of play like all professional soccer. After 20 turns (i.e. 45 minutes) half time will be declared. Both Teams will get a chance to substitute players with subs for 20s before the second half resumes. Users can utilize this time to substitute players with weak dynamic stats or change strategy to win the game.
Your username and individual players will be highlighted in blue, and your opponents in red. You can see this on the pitch too:
Whoever has the ball (Left MF in this scenario) will be the first to take an action, which will be the first step in progressing the game forward. For each turn, a player will have 5 seconds to take a valid action, otherwise the game will randomly select one of the action for the player. There are three actions (Pass, Dribble or Shoot) to choose from as explained below:
- Pass: to pass the ball, click on the player you want to pass to. You can only pass ball to your own team players on side or ahead in field. Pass success chances are shown at bottom of player pog in green percentage.
- Dribble: to dribble, click on the center of field where you want the player to land after a successfull dribble.
- Shoot: Shoot chances are shown just below the ball (player that holds the ball). To shoot, press & hold the ball and ball will be shot.
As mentioned above, for each turn, a player will have 5 seconds to take a valid action, otherwise the game will randomly select one of the 3 options for the player. If your action is successful, your team will keep ball possession and allow you to take another turn, until you score or fail in an action and surrender the ball to your opponent, who will then follow the same process.
Based on stats, morale, synergy, and Coach rules, the chances for each of these 3 actions will vary. You can check dynamic stats of a player by hovering over it. If in the process of passing or shooting an action fails to successfully reach the intended player or goal, the Opponent will take control of it. At this point, they will then utilize actions via own players to attempt to return the ball to your goal area, and then try to score.
Once all 40 turns have elapsed, the game will be called, and hopefully that will result in a victory for you! You will see a message like the one below, and can navigate back to team management by clicking that at the bottom of the page:
If you are finding that the stats of your players are negatively affecting your gameplay, consider editing your team's starting lineup using subs and reserves, removing and replacing players, or purchasing additional cards to expand your collection and choices for team selection.
